  Machine embroidered pewter.

Machine embroidery on paper treated with gold powders.

Tissue has been applied to a fabric ground and coloured with various metallic paints and powders, leaving a pliable "fabric" on which to hand and machine stitch. Silk fabric scraps have been applied to establish the patterns.

Each large metal square is about 1". Freehand machine stitching has been used to blend the metal onto a velvet ground. Some pieces have been padded or embossed.

Detail of a piece 18" x 30". Small metal squares on a velvet ground, with hand stitchery in metallic thread.

Circles of metal machine embroidered onto slips. Reapplied to a new surface to give a raised effect. This method would integrate very well with more traditional gold work techniques.
