| Ann
has been working
seriously with textiles
for many years. She
particularly enjoys
teaching and encouraging
others to pursue and
excel in this craft. Although
originally her craft has
been self taught Ann
acquired and used her
teaching certificates to
teach embroidery,
patchwork and design to
students studying City
and Guilds and degree
courses privately,
through the Crafts
Council and Adult
education colleges Ann
has won several awards
including the National
Embroidery championship
and Embroiderers Guild
Presidents cup. Her
work has been selected
for display in many
national exhibitions.
She
mentors the CHAT group
which is now well known
and admired for its well
executed exhibits
displayed in a very
professional manner,
giving credibility to a
group of embroiderers who
wished to be accepted as
textile artists. Ann
offers workshops in her
own Studio in Berden and
also travels to give
workshops both in this
country and abroad.
She
has written numerous
articles for magazines
and although having been
asked many times has not
managed to write her book
yet.
Ann
likes to work on large
bold pieces. She has the
exceptional skill of
using and teaching the
art of freehand on the
sewing machine and sews
through anything
including tomato puree
tubes and other metals!
Fabric manipulation and
layering are other areas
of interest with a recent
curiosity for mark making
stitches by hand.
Her
inspiration comes from
various sources including
fashion, architecture,
African Art and
landscapes allowing her
chosen materials to
further influence the
design process.
